What is Big Data? What makes the data qualifying for “Big” definition, in other words, how big is the Big Data? And who ever said that data was small? How fast is the Big Data growing? When did Big Data appear first? According to Oracle, big data is data that contains greater variety, arriving in increasing volumes and with more velocity. This is also known as the three Vs. So, even though “S” and “C” are the most often used letters in English language besides “a,” “o” and “e,” it appears that the attributes of Big Data can be better described with the bunch of “V”s.

Big Data is so important to the Federal Government, that The Federal Data Strategy (FDS) encompasses a 10-year vision for how the Federal Government will accelerate the use of data to deliver on mission, serve the public, and steward resources while protecting security, privacy, and confidentiality.
